Cheryl McConnell
Cheryl joined the staff of UCR in February, 2010. She is a near native to the area, having been raised in Fuquay-Varina from age 3. She graduated from Morehead State University in Kentucky with a BA in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and taught for two years in NC and was a substitute teacher for two years in NY while her husband served overseas in the military. As a Navy wife, she has lived in all four corners of the US and returned to Raleigh in 1979. She has two grown children – Randy, who is married and lives in Oklahoma City, and Jennifer, who resides in Raleigh. She recently became a grandmother for the first time in 2011 (just call her “Mackie”).
Cheryl has attended Asbury United Methodist Church since 1989, where she has been and is active in the music/drama program. She currently sings in the choir and plays in the orchestra for special music programs. She also sang/played with the praise band as well as directed the youth and played in the adult English handbells choir. She chaired three “talent” shows during annual fundraising efforts for the Children of Chenobyl projects.
Cheryl discovered a new love and talent in 2004 when she was cast in a local production of “Steel Magnolias.” This led her to pursue other acting gigs with local theatre groups, which transcended into representation by a local talent agency providing opportunities for film, industrials, commercials, and print work as well as voiceovers. “I am actively pursuing a passion.”
