A Positive, Uplifting
Office Manager - Louise E. Smythe
Louise spent her professional career as a finance and operational head for several non-profit arts and educational organizations with a second career as a social worker for seniors in independent living.
She is grateful for her parents who gave her love and security and taught her that all is possible. Louise raised and educated two children, the loves of her life, and is now a proud Grammy of three.
Louise feels fortunate to have found UCR at just the right time after years of spiritual search. She is extremely grateful to have been hired as office manager for UCR and plans on many years in the arms of this loving church family.
Song Leader - Nitia Steward
Roenitia Steward was introduced to Unity eight years ago. She was often called to provide special music and helped start the Unity Choir at Unity Church of the Triangle when on Whittaker Mill Road in Raleigh.
Being a person in search of her own truth, she believes that God has always had big plans for her life. What an "amazing shift in consciousness, I consider Unity BIG in my life. To have a gift that I can use and share with others is awesome."
Nitia, as she is known by us, has had some formal training in high school and college choirs. "Being hit by the Broadway bug set off the entertainer in her," she says. Even though quite shy by nature, there is something special about music that makes her feel safe. "Understanding the healing and devotion it brings to people's lives and hearts makes it easy to get lost in the vibration of it all. I feel such joy to be a part of what God is doing through the music in me and Unity."
Director of Youth Education - Jennie Meyer
Jennie has been a member of UCR since 2008. Her first service was the annual Burning Bowl and she was a regular from then on. With two children in the congregation, Youth Services became very important to her. Jennie has a master's degree in library services and currently works in educational administration. Her passion for education lead her to become the Youth Director for UCR in 2014. She looks forward to getting to know the families at UCR in deeper ways and providing the best spiritual environment she can for each child who enters our space.
Program Director - Melanie Raskin
Melanie grew up in a wonderful Episcopal church but her family always had Daily Word at home...her grandmother was a subscriber and Melanie’s mom brought that tradition to their family. Melanie began visiting Unity Church of Raleigh in 1987 when her mother joined the “little purple church.”
A member of UCR since the late 1990s, Melanie serves the church as a volunteer as well: Platform Leader, Hospitality Team Leader, Spiritual Social Action Team member, Caring Hearts Team member, Fundraising Team member and Prayer Ministry member. Melanie feels blessed; she loves this spiritual community and the God we know. She cherishes her connection to her church family as, together, we practice the presence of God through Unity Principles.
Music Director, Sound and Video Leader - Gregg Bockover
A retiree of the U.S. Postal Service, Gregg is a U.S. Navy Submarine veteran with a B.S. degree in communications from Syracuse University. A long-time musican, he has written, performed, produced and engineered numerous original songs and albums. Introduced to the Daily Word while underway on his first submarine deployment, Gregg subsequently became a member of Unity while stationed in Washington. It was there that he founded the new
thought musical group Transzenders. Gregg has been a member of Unity Church of Raleigh since 2011 and firmly believes that all things are possible!
